The End of May is Here

Well May is just about over. That was too fast! I didn't get a chance to really enjoy it. I have been jobless for about a year. In the past 2 weeks I have been on 3 interviews. This was the first time I have ever interviewed for my talent (Web Design). Figure after owing 45,000 in student loans and 16 classses shy of a Bachelor's Degree it's the least I could do. So far no call backs. I did receive 1. I called her back, left message and no return. 1 position wanted me to travel the state, newsletter, web design, graphic design and set up fundraisers for 12 bucks and hour! Are you freakin' kidding me!? Fuck em. So, my student loans are deferred and i owe about 2500 in credit card bills(not a lot plan to pay off now!). One company did a credit check because this position was for a bank. She called back with questions about my credit, but i can't get in contact with her. Obviously, she wasn't interested. Did they think I was going to rob the bank or program some code to deduct funds?

Whatever.

Anywho, stumbled upon some design work. Pocket some change, paid some bills. I must be procrastinating because I was suppose to print flyers to distribute and have yet to do so. The way the economy is today I'm sure people need design work to start their own business. I just lost focus in the past 2 years. Real life shit hit me in the face. Stuff i'm still unsure of. How come I can not wrap my brain around it!(talking to myself)

I am almost coming to the conclusion I am equipt to succeed on my own and NOT work for anyone else, perhaps work with! It's too much of a headache. Interviews are starting to piss me off. Next interview, i'm going to interview their ass and see how they like it. I am pretty good with interviews. I seem to win them over. Just, what they are asking for that price is RIDICULOUS! Robbery. Thanks to my best friend aka lover for holding me down while i go through this jobless crisis (even though ...i won't finish that statement). I feel like i am going backwards! lol. Really! It's sorta funny. I know God is setting me up with something sweet. :)

Crimson Tide

Okay, So I went to the staffing agency. I was there for 3 whole hours! I filled out papers, took computer test and had an interview. They said I was one of the highest scorers. Either I'm smart or most of the people who show up aren't that smart. Doesn't matter it made me feel good either way.

Two 1/2 hours go by and I finally have an interview. It wasn't really an interview. The guy was talking to me about his own business and how he may be able to "employ me". Making a great impression is everything, I believe I made just that. Let me back up a sec...After taking my test at the computers I realized I was "sweating" in between my legs. My first thought was my period. I just started my period. It was light before I went in there so i didn't think it was that. WRONG! Blood soaked in between my legs in the front. I ddon't believe it was in the back at this time. ..::Graphic message coming::.. I had on a tampon, but if you use them you may know sometimes they may not fully expand, OR being i was sitting there so long time was up!! They say change every 3-4 hours. It was reaching the 4th hour. lol

Funny! Most people would be embarrased by this, but I wasn't. Maybe because I believed no one saw it? So, I go sit down with the rep. I sit my jacket behind me and then i sat on it so when I get up I could easily tie it around my waist like a school girl. So we talked for about 20 minutes (let me remind you, not about the staffing agency). I get up with confidence with my jacket tied around my waste and walk out. I knew he was going to look at my ass so that was the only option.

Funny though, I'm still not embarrased. This has never happened to me before. People have told me similar stories. This was one of those things where you never say or think "That will never happen to me." I never thought that, but never imagined that would be me either. :) So who knows, maybe one day I will bungee jump.

So far no extra cash, but a lot of moves are being made. Preparation is key!

Got a Call...

Well a temp agency called me today. I have to meet them tomorrow. Hopefully I can get that part-time job. Something entertaining I hope. If not , I have to take it because I am on a mission to make 10Gs in 6 months. May is almost over. Things are looking up today. Soon the money will be rolling in. I'm glad I have this blog to keep in in tact. It's better to set a goal and document your progress. Hope you have/had a great day.

Making Flyers and Advertising

Today I am making flyers to advertise my business locally and virtually. Most of my clients found me online or through word of mouth. Time to get some new business. The way the economy is, people are looking to start their own business and doing web and graphic design gives me the upper hand to help them out!

Photography may be my most popular one because there are a lot of events going on in the summer time. People are tired of not being in their photos. I spend most of my time behind the camera at my family events and later notice I am not in any of them. Wouldn't it be fun to have a photographer at your event for a small fee while you enjoy your event!? I know I would. Say you are having a barbecue, the best thing to do is collect a donation from all your family and friends and pay the photographer. I plan to just give them the disk. I'll have several packages of course.

Web Design is the big money maker but my biggest headache. People are super picky(and they have every right to be). I wind up spending more time than it's worth in their project. I'm getting better at it though.

So tomorrow I am on my mission to find a restaurant part-time gig. I need something fast-paced and highly populated. Restaurant sounds like fun. Plus I will be able to see my tips everyday to add to the pot.

May - Preparing for the $10,000

Okay, the job market sucks for me right now. I have all the abilities to complete almost any entry-level job out there! And I am unemployed. Yes, I am a do-it-myself type of woman and like to get things done. Me being talented has a lot to do with why I am unemployed. Don't you want to have your own? Your own business? My problem is consolidating them into one. Turning hobbies into business. You are now going to experience my journey as I try to make $10,000 in 6 months on creative odd jobs. (Starting June 1st 2008. Prepping now!)

I read some where if you make 40 chocolate covered strawberries and sell them at $2.00 a piece you will make $80 that day. There are approx. 30 days in a month. Let's say you work all thirty of them. That's $2400 a month if you sell them all. I always find strawberries 2 for $5.00. So let's stick with that. You also need chocolate morasels and shortening(butter). So for a whole month let's estimate what I'll need:

60 containers of strawberries = $150
40 packs of chocolate morasels = $100 (a guess)
10 sticks of butter = $60 (a guess)
100 box sticks = $6.00 (a guess)
100 box plastic bags = $3.00 (a guess)

That's $319 investment per month
That's 2091 per month profit.
Not counting table rental (if you sell at a flea market) Let's just say at least $1800 per month profit.

...For selling CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES!

Can you believe that! I was like wow. And guess what? I am going to try it!

Here are a couple other things I am going to do in order to reach my $10,000 in 6 months goal.

Web Design
Graphic Design
Sell custom t-shirts and garments
Photography
and a part-time job preferably at a restaurant (easy to get and you get to meet new people everyday. This will allow me to constantly be social)

Ready? Wish me luck!
